Kayla walked into the abortion facility after a ten-minute conversation with Andrew and Justin. They could not follow her inside. So they stood outside and prayed.
Kayla’s hand hovered near the door.
She had walked toward the abortion facility with her shoulders squared and her eyes forward. Then she slowed. She glanced at Andrew, looked away, stopped, and started again.
Justin leaned toward Andrew. “She’s wrestling.”
Kayla reached the entrance but did not open it. She stepped away, turned around, and walked toward the two men standing outside.
Andrew spoke first.
“We’re here because babies are killed in that place. We care about you, and God says not to go that way.”
Kayla folded her arms, but she stayed.
Justin told her they wanted to help and that there were real options. He also told her that the decision she was facing mattered before God.
They spoke with her for ten minutes. They told her that abortion takes an innocent life, that God sees it, and that there is mercy for those who turn to Him.
Kayla said little, but she listened.
Then her expression tightened. Without warning, she turned and walked into the facility.
The door closed behind her.
They kept praying
Andrew lowered his voice. “Lord… have mercy.”
He and Justin stepped back and began to pray.
“God, stop her.”
“Open her eyes.”
“Don’t let her go through with this.”
This was not an argument they could win from the sidewalk. Kayla was inside, and her child’s life hung in the balance.
A little while later, the abortionist arrived. The moment felt final.
“It’s too late,” Justin said.
Andrew did not answer. Until the abortion happened, it was not final.
They kept praying.
Inside, Kayla sat in a waiting room filled with women. Some laughed. Some looked at their phones. Some talked as though this were another ordinary appointment.
It did not feel ordinary to Kayla.
Her name was called. After the labs, she went in for an ultrasound. The technician turned the screen toward her.
There was a flicker.
A heartbeat.
Kayla’s breath caught. What she saw was not an idea or a problem to solve. This was a child. Her child was alive.
The words from outside came back to her. Not every word, but enough.
Life. God. Truth.
The staff placed her in a room to wait for the doctor. The paper beneath her crinkled as she shifted on the table. The doctor came in, checked her, and asked a question.
“Are you sure?”
Kayla wasn’t. Not anymore.
“I changed my mind,” she said.
She got off the table. She did not ask for her money back or stop to argue. She walked out.
“I didn’t do it!”
Andrew and Justin were still outside praying when the door opened.
Kayla stepped out. Her face was different. The burden was gone, and relief was beginning to break through.
“I didn’t do it!” she called to them.
Andrew froze. Justin stared.
“I didn’t do it!” she said again, smiling now. “I was in there… in the room with the doctor. And I just felt like I had to get out. I couldn’t stay.”
Andrew had cried while pleading for God to stop the abortion. Now his tears were tears of gratitude.
Weeks later, Kayla messaged him and explained more of what had happened. She had seen the ultrasound. She had seen the reality of the life inside her. What she had been about to do became clear.
Andrew asked her one more question.
“Should we keep doing this?”
Her answer came quickly.
“Don’t stop. Some other girl is going to try to walk through those doors. She’s going to need someone to tell her the truth. She’s going to need someone to listen. Someone to care.”
Then she added, “One girl is going to need the love and support you guys give.”
Why they keep standing
Andrew and Justin returned to Kayla’s story when hope felt thin, when someone entered the facility and did not come back out, and when critics told them the work was not worth it.
They remembered Kayla in the parking lot, calling out, “I didn’t do it!”
Her story did not begin with a large program or a dramatic plan. It began with two men standing outside an abortion facility. They had ten minutes to speak with her. When she walked inside, they prayed to the God who hears.
Kayla made the decision to leave. God showed mercy. Her child lived.
The men could not know that outcome when the door closed. They only knew they needed to remain faithful while they waited.
That is why Kayla’s words matter so much: “Don’t stop.”
For those who have already supported One Life For Life, her story is an encouragement to keep going. Much of this work happens in conversations that few people hear and prayers that few people see. Sometimes, however, the door opens and the answer walks back into the parking lot.
For those considering a gift, your support helps One Life For Life missionaries continue standing outside abortion facilities, speaking the truth, offering help, and pointing women to Christ. It helps ensure that when another woman slows down near the door, someone is there to speak with her.
Not every story will end as Kayla’s did. The missionaries know that better than anyone. But on this day, after ten minutes of truth and prayers lifted outside, Kayla walked back through the door.
Her first words told them everything.
“I didn’t do it.”
