One Word

God.

That was her entire answer. That is why she kept her baby.

Outside the Orlando abortion mill, Mike Mattingly reported that gospel conversations were plentiful. Then a young mother chose life.

Somebody asked her what changed her mind. She did not give a speech. She gave one word.

“God.”

That is the entire answer. But it is not the entire story.

The mill still murders. God still saves.

An abortion mill is not a neutral building. It is a place where pre-born neighbors are murdered. Mothers drive in carrying a child. Some drive out without one.

That is the grief of this work. It does not stay in a headline. It stands on the sidewalk with the missionary. It sits in the chest of everyone who loves the Gospel and still has to watch a culture love death.

If you have ever felt sick scrolling past another story of abortion, you already know a piece of what Mike carries in Orlando. Helplessness. Anger. Weariness. The fear that nothing you do will matter while the killing keeps its hours.

Those feelings are not unbelief. They are what honest people feel when innocent blood is being shed.

And then God interrupts.

Mike did not post a speech of his own. He posted what he saw God do.

The conversations and hearers of the gospel were somewhat plentiful, which I’m always thankful to God for. There’s no greater joy than telling the greatest news that can ever reach human ears.

A young mother chose life on Tuesday, and when asked why she changed her mind, she gave a one word answer: “God.” Praise God for that conviction and pray for new life in Christ.

Read that again.

Gospel conversations. A young mother who chose life. One word. Then praise, and then a prayer that she would come to new life in Christ.

The baby is alive. The story is not finished. Mike is still asking you to pray for her soul. James will not let the church stop at a feeling.

This is what overcomes the weight

You do not overcome the murder of innocents by looking away. You do not overcome it by getting used to it. You do not overcome it by waiting until the feeling passes.

Christians should be doers of God’s Word.

James does not leave this as sentiment. “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world” (James 1:27).

James has already said, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:22). A faith that only grieves, and never goes, is not the faith he commends.

Who are the orphans at an abortion mill? The pre-born neighbors being handed over to death. Their parents are giving them away. They have no advocate inside that building. If the church will not visit them in their affliction, no one will.

And the mothers? They are not innocent of the sin they came to commit. Abortion is murder. We do not pretend otherwise.

Many of those women are still afflicted, pressured, financially struggling, and sometimes alone. Pure religion does not wait for a worthy victim. It steps into that hard time with love, and truth and offers something better. Life and life everlasting through Jesus Christ.

Do not only feel this

A save like this does not cancel the abortion mill. The doors are still open. Other mothers still have appointments. Other babies are still carried toward death. The American Holocaust does not pause because one mother said “God.”

So do not treat this as a story you merely feel; but act upon it. We’ve made it easy.

You can pray. Pray for this young mother, that she would come to know the one true God whose name she already spoke. Pray for the next appointment. Pray Mike through the mornings still to come.
